Calming Down

Following the advice of all you beautiful ladies and some ladies here in the 'real world'
I have decided to slow things down a little bit. I put in my notice at the fitness studio,
which is bitter sweet 'cause I love my classes, but this will allow me more time to myself!
June 17th will be my last day teaching fitness classes but I may begin to attend them
as a participant instead, it will be fun to FINALLY be on the other side!

I have only 2 birth clients left, one due now and the other in 2 weeks, once those little
ones are born I am officially off my out of home work. I will still have lots of desk work
to do for my company and some business meetings but that doesn't take too much of
my energy. It's going to be weird (and finically draining) to be without pay for 2 months
before the baby is born, but with the type of work I do I really feel I had no other option.
Like you ladies were saying, I needed to take the advice I would give my clients and I
tell all my clients to take as much time off before the birth as possible. Besides, who
knows if I will ever get this opportunity again, I really need to just enjoy this time,
respect myself and pamper this active little one.

In other news, we have been thinking of names. We had two names picked out when we
were convinced we were having twins but now that there is just one little bean I don't
really want to use one of them and not the other. My husband is greek so we need to use
a name that can be baptized in the orthodox church (or at least translated to do so) but
that has made things a bit more challenging.

My husbands favorite name is Leonidas, which I find to be a bit 'too much' of a name,
although I do really like the name Leo. We have both kinda agreed on Gabriel BUT
whenever I bring it up to people they say it sounds like a girls name, but the nick
name Gabe sound very strong to me and I REALLY don't think it sounds feminine at all.
The 3rd option we have is Theodore, which I like only if shortened to Theo NOT Teddy
but I'm not really convinced. So if anyone out there know of some really great greek
names that can be easily translated or shortened to a fun canadian name I would love
your input, or even some input on our top 3. Jonathan would be the middle name
after my grandfather, the greek translation is Yanni.

The girls name has already been chosen and will be revealed when she arrives, if she
is a she. We both agreed to this name, it translates well, so we locked it in!!

  1. kudos to you for making the move to slow down!

I love all three of those names. Gabriel is a wonderful man's name, but I know a young man who is amazing named Gabriel, so the image in my head is already made in a positive light. I like them all though -- excellent strong cool guy names.

  2. Love the names, Gabe is a strong male name, but I only know little girls named Gabreiel, but I think it's spelled differently. Na,s are hard, our son was just baby b for a few days!

Glad that you are winding down.

  3. Leonidas is a chocolate shop on the Danforth, just so you know. I have an Uncle Teddy, so I like that - although he doesn't, he prefers 'Ted'. Also like Theo from the Cosby show! Oh yeah! I also have a (great) Uncle Gabe - so it seems manly enough to me.
Names are so fun. Thanks for letting us live vicariously through you!
What about Peter? Or Jason? Boys names are way harder.
And good for you for taking some time off. This is such an important time to treasure! :)

  4. Glad you've decided to slow down.

I like all of your names, but I'm not sure on Leonidas.

What about Lucas (Luke), or Thaddeus (Thad), and there is always Nicholas?

  5. So glad to hear you're slowing down a bit. Way to go, mama! My favorite of the names you've picked is Gabriel, or Gabe. Very nice! It's such a big responsibility, isn't it!

  6. Personally I love Leonidas (calling him Leo is perfect!)and Gabriel (Gabe is a very strong name i must agree) but what about Dimitri? I don't think anyone else in the family is named Dimitri. Pretty sure its Steven in english but I personally would keep it Dimitri. Or of course you could go super Greek and name him Zeus or Hercules :)

  7. I agree with the name Dimitri, or Demetri... but in English I think it's Jimmy or Jim. I too am with a Greek and have to wrestle with the Greek Orthodox names and the tradition of naming sons after their grandfather. Unfortunately in my case that means a boy named Ulysses! If it's a boy we'll probably use that as a middle name instead :)

  8. A King among Men
    God's Gift
    God's go to guy.

Wow this little lad has a lofty world to live up to. Strong names for a strong kid.
Leonidas my first thought is CHOCOLATE but who doesn't LOVE chocolate.
Theodore makes me think of the boss' kid.
    Gabriel, what can be said...angelic.

  9. I love all 3 of your names. My first pick would be Leonidas. It's somewhat unusual, but not weird. It does sound nice and Greek, but can also be shortened to Leo (or Leon?). Or, if he wants, he can go by Leonidas and just ROCK IT! Gabriel and Theodore are good, too (I love Gabe), but they don't rock the Greek angle quite as much. Which maybe that's good, but I love family history in names, so I don' think there's anything wrong with just going for it!
